Within the Muslim world.,
Slavery was practiced and seen right throughout Islam. Muslim slavery continued for centuries. All of Islam societies participated in owning slaves. Slaves came from many places such as Africa, Bulkans, Central Asia, and Meditteranean Europe. Islam moderated slavery under these basic regulations:
- limited those who could be enslaved
- treated slaves as human beings as well as property
- banned the mistreatment of slaves; important to treat them with kindness and compassion
- allowed slaves to achieve their freedom and made freeing slaves a virtuous act
- and barred Muslims from enslaving other Muslims.
